Thermally modified radiata pine is knot free, beautiful and durable
Our Benchmark cladding with thermally modified radiata pine is knot free with a beautiful golden-brown tone. Each and every board is unique, with its own natural grain. In addition to adding to the wood’s aesthetic appeal, thermal modification improves its dimensional stability and increases its durability, which is important when using the wood outdoors.
As long as the correct installation techniques are used, thermally modified radiata pine is rot resistant for 15+ years. To further improve its durability, we recommend treating the cladding on all four sides with oil or paint prior to installation. We offer various profiles, including profiles that allow for hidden fixing and make it super easy to install your cladding with a flawless finish.

The color of the wood changes over time
Thermal modification gives radiata pine a naturally beautiful golden-brown tone.
As with any wood, the surface of thermally modified radiata pine will fade to a natural silver-gray color over time. This process starts immediately after the products are installed and can take a few months to several years depending on how much UV light they are exposed to. The durability of the boards is not affected.
It must be taken into account that wood is a natural material and the change of color over time may be uneven. Each table ages in its own way. And the different sides of the house facade age differently, depending on the sun and rain falling on the board.
To reduce discoloration or restore the original color of thermal wood, Thermory boards can be protected by covering them with a UV-resistant pigmented finish (wax, stain, paint, mineral oil, etc.).
Why choose Benchmark radiata pine cladding?
Choose cladding made with thermally modified radiata pine if you’re looking for a knot-free softwood that’s also durable enough to last outdoors.
Thermal modification increases the durability of radiata pine (class 2, 15+ years), which is extremely important for outdoor use.
The lower moisture absorption capability and rate of thermally modified wood results in less moisture-induced deformation, making it a great choice for outdoor use.
Thermal modification gives radiata pine a beautiful golden-brown tone. In addition to being durable, our thermally modified radiata pine is environmentally friendly, as the thermal modification process is chemical free and no harmful waste is generated.

Radiata pine is a knot-free coniferous tree
Radiata pine or insignis pine (Pinus radiata) is a coniferous tree of the pine family in the genus Pinus. Radiata pine is grown in New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Spain and other regions, and the trees are typically pruned twice during their growth period in order to remove the lower branches so that the tree grows a knot-free layer. Radiata pine is a fast-growing, high-quality wood that reaches cutting maturity quickly. However, its quick growth makes the wood lighter, softer and more porous than that of the common pine.
Radiata pine is well suited for thermal modification, becoming more durable and stable and acquiring a beautiful golden-brown color through the process. We offer radiata pine cladding and wall paneling for indoor and outdoor use in our Benchmark range.
Wall cladding maintenance To oil or not to oil?
Thermally modified wall cladding does not necessarily require surface treatment. However, for Radiata pine we recommend oiling the boards prior to installation on all four sides using UV-resistant oil and repeating the oiling process on the external surface every 3 years. The oil should be applied only to clean, level, dust-free surfaces. Before applying oil to the whole cladding, test it on a small piece of wood using a small quantity of oil. Observe the oil manufacturer’s instructions.
Recommendations for installing Benchmark thermo-radiata pine cladding
To ensure that your paneling lasts as long as possible, it’s extremely important to use the correct installation techniques.
For the substructure, we recommend using joists of thermally modified pine with durability class 2. This way, the substructure will last just as long as the paneling.
Choose PaCS Clad or B1-1 clip fastenings to create a façade with no visible screw holes or screws.
By choosing cladding with end-matching, you can minimize time, labor and material costs when installing boards of different lengths. With end-matching, the boards don’t necessarily need to meet directly over a joist.
