Thermory Design Awards: winning projects

Thermory Design Awards is part of Thermory 25 celebrations for acknowledging and rewarding our brand ambassadors for creating projects that leave a lasting impact.

This year we received 43 nominations and the jury selected category winners and runner-ups.

TINY / PRIVATE HOUSE

Category winner: All Wood, All the Time

Architect: OPAL Architecture

Builder: Country Home Construction

Location: Connecticut, USA

Product: Thermory Benchmark Thermo-Ash cladding

Jury comments: “With a cross-laminated timber structural system, using wood in interior and on siding, it is close to an all-wood building. The jury noted their technical filigree and choosing to leave the siding uncoated.”

Category runner-up: Treeangle Cabin

Architect: Catherine Pageau, The Modern Cabin Company LLC

Location: Georgia, USA

Product: Thermory Vivid thermo-pine cladding

Jury comments: “This project charmed the jury with its sensitivity to place and biophilic design elements. Free of conventions, the interesting rooflines incorporated in architecture echoed the landscape it was built on.”

PUBLIC RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

Category winner: Powerhouse

Architect: Snohetta

Distributor: Moelven

Location: Norway

Product: Thermory Benchmark thermo-pine cladding

Jury comments: “Powerhouse is a true landmark. Using innovative and forward-thinking solutions, this building over its lifetime generates more energy than it consumes. Something, the built environment needs more of.”

Category runner-up / Thermory Design Awards 2nd prize: Paide State High School

Architect: Salto Architects

Location: Estonia

Product: Thermory Benchmark thermo-pine cladding & decking

Jury comments: “We valued the use of wood as a monolith material both on cladding and decking, and how the building takes into account and reflects the landscape it’s built on. Wood is not yet so common in public buildings. This project serves as a staple of what public schools should look like.”

INTERIOR

Category winner / Thermory Design Awards Grand Prix: Emily Hotel Lobby and Terra restaurant

Architect: YOD Group

Location: Ukraine

Product: Thermory Drift cladding

Jury comments: “We noted two strong connecting projects by the architects in one category and decided to view them together. We valued their bold use of wood and strong design statements. Sometimes the interior design may be overlooked in architectural competitions, but this project serves as a reminder that it should not be so.”

Category runner-up: Patio House

Architect: BNLA architecten

Distributor: Carpentier Hardwood Solutions

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Product: Thermory Benchmark thermo-ash

Jury comments: “This is an interior that captures beautifully the minimalist japandi touch. The jury also noted the project presented in the private house category and appreciated the interior and exterior creating a seamlessly flowing space.”

SAUNA

Category winner: Pixxla Sauna

Architect: Pixxla

Distributor: Woodmaster

Location: Slovakia

Product: Sauna by Thermory Alder 15×68 A STS4; Alder 28×42/90 A SHP and Thermowood spruce 26×186 Country D4sg
